Legal music downloads are big news in 2005. Five years ago it was illegal downloads that were making the headlines. But after that, file sharing just got even bigger. So what happened?
Well, file sharing turned out to be a great way to spread viruses. But the real problem with peer-to-peer networks is the total lack of quality control - oh the irony!
So in light of all this, it's pretty bizarre that in 2005, all you really need to download free mp3s is Google.
Try entering the following text as a Google search:
intitle:index.of + mp3 + "eminem" -html -htm -php -asp -txt -pls
You can substitute any artist name, album title or song title between the quotes, or just omit them to get a big list of mp3s. Hmm...
Of course, you might prefer to keep your free downloads strictly legal. So how about giving some props to "Funky Do Morro", currently offering 12 albums of stripped down Brazilian hip hop produced by anonymous artists in people's garages. A microphone, a drum machine and two turntables - you know it makes sense. And it makes sense to give it away too...
