To call Namibia remote would be an understatement. I met Joesph, he told me I was old because I was 36. Two of his brothers died in the liberation wars.

My flat overlooks a large Police Station. They have a tannoy system that they use to broadcast announcements throughout their building and yard areas. These announcements are clearly audible in my flat, and are mainly, but not always, of the "canteen is now open" variety.

Other sounds I have heard through the Police tannoy:

Loud, tinny recording of "Rocking Around the Christmas Tree" by Gary Glitter, played in its entirety. This was at 7am.

Horribly distorted and loud Crazy Frog ringtone, repeated three times, followed by childish giggling.

Repeatedly playing the chorus of KRS One "Sound Of Da Police", then taking it in turns to do karaoke. This went on for half an hour.

Infernal racket, I'm calling the police!

50ml Amaretto, juice of 1/2 a lemon, sugar, ice, maraschino cherry.

Rub the rim of an old-fashioned glass with lemon, and dip repeatedly into granulated sugar until it has a good "frosted" rim. Half fill a cocktail shaker with ice, add the Amaretto and lemon juice, and shake well. Strain into the glass; over ice. Garnish with a maraschino cherry, and serve.

Use whiskey instead to make a Whiskey Sour.
